Inaugural Exhibition for Atlanta Saleroom of Leslie Hindman Auctioneers Features Property from Anthony Greene, Avid Collector and Financial Services Pioneer
This December marks the inaugural auction event for Leslie Hindman Auctioneers’ Atlanta salesroom. The public exhibition opens in the vibrant Buckhead neighborhood Monday, December 3, and the online-only auction opens for bidding Thursday, December 6. The sale includes fine art, furniture and decorative art from prestigious estates and collections in Atlanta.
Consisting of over 360 lots, objects include American and European furniture, decorative arts, rugs, carpets, paintings and prints. Featured in the auction is the Collection of Mr. Anthony Greene (1938 – 2017) who called Atlanta home and made significant contributions to both its civic and business landscapes.
An avid collector, Mr. Greene developed his love for art and antiques during shore leave while serving in the Navy aboard the Franklin Delano Roosevelt aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean. Upon the completion of service, he began a career in financial planning with Financial Services Corporation and later became the founder, President and CEO of Investment Management and Research at Raymond James Financial Services. He also served many years as Chairman, President and Director of the International Association for Financial Planning. By his peers, Mr. Greene has been credited with elevating Raymond James Financial Services to one of the top ten retail brokerage firms in the United States.
A testament to his passion and devotion to the arts, Mr. Greene served on the boards of both the High Museum of Art in Atlanta and the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson, Wyoming. As evident in the collection, Mr. Greene held a special interest in English and French furniture and decorative arts. French highlights from his collection include a very fine Louis XV style gilt-bronze-mounted kingwood vitrine by Francois Linke (estimate $15,000 – 20,000), a Louis XV/XVI style gilt-bronze-mounted parquetry commode signed Paul Sormani (estimate $4,000 – 6,000), and a fine Louis XVI style gilt-bronze-mounted pedestal clock, after the model by Henri Reisener (estimate $7,000 – 10,000). Also included are several Louis XV provincial walnut and fruitwood commodes, giltwood mirrors, gilt-bronze clocks and encriers as well as Georgian style dining tables, chairs and occasional tables.
Artwork from the Greene collection includes small works by William Trost Richards, Alfred Thompson Bricher, Alfred de Breanski and others. An imposing bronze sculpture entitled Ridin’ a Rank One, executed in 1993 by famed American artist Grant Speed, will be of interest to Western American art collectors (estimate $5,000 – 7,000).
The Greene collection as well as many others will be presented in the Leslie Hindman Auctioneers Atlanta saleroom located at 668 Miami Circle NE, Atlanta, GA 30324 from Monday, December 3 through Tuesday, December 11. Exhibition hours are 12pm – 5pm daily. The full auction catalogue will be available at lesliehindman.com and on Live Auctioneers starting December 6, when bidding commences for the timed, online-only sale. Bidding ends Tuesday, December 11. For further information, please contact Mary Calhoun, Managing Director of our Atlanta office at (404) 800-0192.
