Still + Life
Two New York Artists passionately interested in the relationship between paint, form, and image
October 16 – November 14
The exhibition Still + Life presents paintings by Stephen Pentak and Sydney Licht, two highly regarded painters whose work explores the relationship between paint, form, and image. Both painters are thoroughly contemporary; both have developed unique and recognizable styles and have earned significant reputations; both artists are colorists par excellence; and both work with traditional media, using established genres as a springboard to personal exploration. Pentak’s stylized “landscapes” have been likened to Zen riddles in their balance between surface tension and overall calm; and Licht’s exquisitely balanced still lives have been compared by The New Yorker magazine to those of the great Italian painter Giorgio Morandi.
Check out Sydney Licht’s profile in the November issue of Elle Decor.
